West End performer to help out former tutor by hosting event for North Devon youngsters

A SPECIAL visitor is set to bring a touch of the West End to North Devon next weekend.

The Phantom of the Opera star Nic Greenshields is holding a musical theatre workshop for young people aged 12 to 21 in Barnstaple and Bideford.

Nic, who currently plays the Phantom alternate in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s much-loved musical at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Haymarket, also counts appearances in Les Misrables, Miss Saigon and Cabaret among his West End credits.

The performer agreed to take part in the workshop, being run by his former Laine Theatre Arts college singing tutor Nigel Brooks, from Barnstaple.

“We think this will be an exciting weekend and we think there will be a heavy application to be part of it so we are limiting the numbers to 40 people,” said Nigel.

The two-day event starts on Saturday with a rehearsal of Les Misrables at Newport Community School in Barnstaple, and will continue on Sunday with a further rehearsal at Bideford’s Kingsley School, followed by a short performance for parents and friends.

“For those attending the workshop, we ask that you obtain material of the show Les Misrables – CD or music sheet – and acquaint yourself with it prior to the workshop itself.”

Places for the weekend are 40 and must be booked in advance. For more information, telephone Nigel Brooks on (01271) 345154 or email
