Barnstaple pub manager faces his creepy crawlie fears this Saturday to raise money for Chemo Appeal

A Barnstaple pub manager will confront one of his biggest fears – and hundreds of its relatives – this Saturday as he undertakes another nail biting challenge to raise money for the North Devon Chemotherapy Appeal.

Peter Elder from Barum Gate has already jumped out of a perfectly good aeroplane to help the appeal and now is preparing to tackle his fear of creepy crawlies by getting covered in two inch cockroaches during a charity Fun Day at Barum Gate on Saturday.

The Barum Gate Fun Day starts at 12 noon and the going rate on the day will be “1 a roach” with all invited to dig deep and add a companion to join Peter! There will be plenty of things to see and do throughout the day, with live bands, face painting, fun fair rides, stalls and a raffle. Exmoor Zoo and education officer Steve Eddy will be there on the day to administer Peter’s trial and introduce visitors to a variety of creatures.

From 7.30pm there will be a race night with racing on the big screen followed by a DJ and disco to finish.

Peter’s sky dive seems to have helped his fear of heights and falling, so he hopes this one will help overcome a dread of creepy crawlies.

All are invited to the Barum Gate Fun Day on August 20 to help support the Chemo Appeal. You can support the appeal and sponsor Peter by going to www.justgiving.com/Peter-Elder.
