Parker’s above par performance

ROYAL North Devon professional Iain Parker marked his debut in the Senior PGA Professional Championship by finishing in a three-way share of second place.

Parker,50, said it was a ‘fantastic feeling’ after he over-achieved his ambition of just finishing in the top 20 at Northants County.

A closing two-over-par 72, which included an eagle at the first, edged him to a final five-over-par 215 - four shots behind champion Peter Smith of Deeside.

It earned Parker 2,733, plus a place in the De Vere Club PGA Senior Championship at Northumberland’s Slaley Hall.

“My thoughts at the start of the week were to finish in the top 20 and get into Slaley Hall,” he said. “That would have been a good achievement, but I’ve done much better than that and I’m delighted.”
