Paddle goes full steam ahead
Children’s hospice paddle fundraiser goes ahead – but it was far from plain sailing!
MORE than 30 people took part in the first event Paddle for Life event that took place in choppy conditions yesterday (Sunday).
The event, organised in aid of Children’s Hospice South West, saw participants take part in a sponsored paddle from Ilfracombe harbour.
Those taking part were originally set to paddle canoes, kayaks, surf or paddle boards from Ilfracombe to Hele Bay or Watermouth and back, but organisers shortened the course due to the tricky sea conditions and torrential rain.
Hospice spokesperson Marie Tippet said: “The distance was shortened and all participants went out at the same time for safety reasons, which meant we managed to catch the best of the weather while the competitors were paddling and rowing.
“Overall it was considered a success and those who took part had a great time.â€
