THE fifth outing of Barnstaple’s Three Bridge Fun Run saw more than 100 runners take part in the annual charity event.

A total of 115 were started off at Ladies Mile in Rock Park by a cannon shot from Barnstaple Sea Cadets as they began a 5.25K circuitous route taking in the Rolle Quay, Taw and Long bridges.

The run is organised by Barnstaple Lions Club and this year was raising money for North Devon Hospice – a running total on Monday stood at 1,000, with more money coming in all the time.

Finishing their run, the competitors were handed medals and encouragement in equal measure by the Mayor, Councillor Ian Roome and Ali Hunt from the hospice.

“Out of town” competition took the top three men’s times, with Danny Wood of Colchester first in a time of 22 minutes and two seconds. Second was Jean Wuller of Denmark in 22.02 and Dana Robertson from Kent third with 22.04.

Vicky Skelton of the North Devon Roadrunners posted the fastest ladies times and Scott Braunton was first in the under 16 category.
