OPINION: Working with our customers to improve our communities

North Devon Homes

Here at North Devon Homes our vision is to create communities where people want to live. We know we can’t do this alone and so that’s why we work closely with our customers and value those who volunteer with us.

Our volunteers help us in many ways, from helping us in our decision-making processes, guiding us to making improvements to our services and ensuring we know what matters to our customers. We listen and work together to make a real difference to their homes and our neighbourhoods.

Jane Ricketts is one of our customers and the Chair of our Customer Health & Safety Partnership and she recently told us: “Volunteering helps me give something back to society. I hope that volunteering will help make a change to customers lives. Volunteering helps me interact with other people while making a positive difference to North Devon Homes’ community of customers."

We are grateful for our customers who give up their time to help us improve our services. Whether it is through joining one of our friendly customer partnership groups, filling in surveys, helping us with events or joining us on one our community clear up days.

Our clear up days have returned, with the easing of pandemic restrictions, these days are a great chance for us to get out into our communities, engage with customers and volunteer our time to help keep our communities a great place to live.

Recently some of our staff spent the day in Forches, Barnstaple where they cleared pathways, did general weeding and litter picked the area.

We are always on the lookout for new volunteers to work with us. Our approach to involve people is flexible, as we know everyone has different time commitments.

No experience or qualifications are needed, and everyone is welcome. Our volunteers help us to make lasting improvements for the benefit of all customers.
