CHRIS Bulled set the pace in Ilfracombe Skittles League this week with 84 for Shipwreckers. With team-mate Ian Meredith also flooring 72 they totalled 383 for a big 65-pin win away to Peers.

But Hele Billyboys amassed the top team score of the week with 398 at home to Wheelers, with valuable contributions from Karl Mannings (81), Andrew Lambell (78) and Mark Law (71), while J Hales top scored for the visitors with 73.

D J’s Delinquents celebrated their first win of the season in Division 4 away to Waverley Wanderers.

IT was the opening round of the pairs, singles and seniors competitions in South Molton and District Skittles League this week.

The best was saved for last as the highest scoring encounter was fought between the Gin Trap pair of Richard Jennings and Toby Lochead, who saw off the challenge from Bill and Steve Marshall of Knowstoneians at the Town Arms.

Bill Marshall had the best score of the night with 76, but Toby Lochead was only one behind as the Division 3 pair beat their Division 2 opponents 140-127.

Last season’s winners Matthew and Alan Tapp of Heasley Mill B came through unscathed at the Kings Arms against their Trappers counterparts Richard Gibson and Richard Tarr, by the narrow margin of 121-117.

Highest scorer of the week was John Blackmore with 80 in New Inn’s Concrete Cup victory at Simonsbath Stars.

The four sides left in the Bridgeman Qualifying competition are Division 1 quartet Heasley Mill B, Shafters, Burrington and Trappers, who all overcame opponents from lower divisions.

All three South Molton sides are through to the next round of the Devon Open, with two wins and a bye to their names.
