Bideford well-beaten at home to Frome
BIDEFORD were beaten 4-1 by Frome Town as the Zamaretto Southern League action returned to the Sports Ground on Saturday.
The Robins’ first league game in nearly a month ended in disappointment as second-placed Frome showed their superiority with three second-half strikes.
Matt Hockley gave the hosts the lead with a 35th minute penalty but an equaliser on the stroke of half-time by the visitors’ Matt Peters was only the sign of things to come.
Ben Thomson’s cross-come-shot sailed over the head of Bideford keeper Matt Armstrong-Ford five minutes into the second half and Frome could have been ahead 10 minutes later from the penalty spot. Dominic Rivans was shown a red card for the trip but Josh Brigham fired the spot-kick wide.
The break-away goals were scored by Dean Evans on 75 and 80 minutes.
Bideford, who are now 12th in the South and West table, were set to travel to Wimborne Town last night (Tuesday). On Saturday, they visit bottom side Andover while next Tuesday, they’re at home to North Leigh.
