North Devon suffer late loss on Vice Presidents’ Day

North Devon Gazette

The game with Torbay got off to an open start with chances at both ends, Guy Cockcroft eventually converting with ten minutes gone.

However, defender Mike Cuthbertson had to remove himself almost immediately after, having sustained a broken finger from a tackle, and Torbay capitalised on the senior player's absence with two quickfire breakaway goals. Â

Cuthbertson's return with five minutes of the half left allowed North Devon to regain their shape and Ashley Thorne netted on the stroke of half-time to draw the sides level.Â

Torbay edged in front again before two counter-attacking goals by Thorne to bring up his hat-trick, one assisted by a pirouette precision pass from Cockcroft, saw North Devon briefly lead. Unfortunately, two late goals secured a dramatic 5-4 away win. Â

The 1st XI and Vice Presidents were later joined that evening at Tawstock village hall for a club quiz night, which generated £687 for the club.Â
