NORTH Devon girls started their inter-district cricket season in fine style, beating South Devon by nine wickets.
After hurrying out the South for 80 in 20.5 overs, the North raced to 81-1 in 14 overs
Katie Chisholm (23) batted steadily for the South in the face of some strong bowling and solid fielding from the North girls, for whom Annabel Squire took six wickets in five overs. The pace of the bowling was a baptism of fire for rookie wicket keeper Issy Brown, but she performed extremely well behind the stumps.
North captain Emily Ward batted bravely through injury before retiring on 18, Annabel Squire was 22no and Catherine Mitcham 11no.
Manager Jan Witheridge was delighted with the girls performance and said this was just rewards for the training the girls put in through the winter with the North Devon Cricket Association’s district training programme.
Team members were: Emily Ward, Annabel Squire, Millie Squire, Catherine Mitcham, Issy Brown, Evie Risebro, Emily Pettett, Lizzie Nicholas, Lauren Bowden, Niamh Rees-Doherty, Bea Auty, Morgan Harrison-Hooton.
