North Devon Festival to be axed

Theatres trust will concentrate on key projects

NORTH Devon Festival will not take place in its familiar format next June because of financial constraints.

The North Devon Theatres Trust, which has organised the event for 13 years, has decided instead to concentrate on core elements of the festival which will be presented during the year.

The festival, which last year comprised more than 200 events is a victim of the country’s economic situation, which has seen the theatre’s trust lose more than 200,000 in core funding over the past two years.

A number of key projects, such as the Barnstaple Fringe, Art Trek and Theatrefest will be freed from the busy June schedule and be spread more evenly through the year.
