A musical feast will be served up next week as the 18th North Devon Festival of Choirs returns to the Queen's Theatre in Barnstaple.

This year the event on Saturday and Sunday, April 24 and 25 features almost exclusively local performers, including four junior school choirs - Newport Community, Fremington, Horwood and Newton Tracey and Pilton Bluecoat, making a first festival appearance.

Also appearing for the first time are the newly formed Fremington group Rejoice the Voice, a contemporary community acapella choir with a wide repertoire of songs.

Others in the line up of North Devon's choral talents include The Appledore Singers, Harmony Unlimited, Barnstaple Ladies Choir, Ilfracombe Ladies Choir and The Barnstaple Jubilee Singers. Panache and The Nigel Brooks Juniors complete the local line up.

Special guests will be students from Laine Theatre Arts, youngsters who use the Festival as part of their training towards their ultimate aim of starring in the West End.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Barnstaple plus other civic dignitaries will be attending the show next week.

The North Devon Festival of Choirs takes place at 7pm on both evenings and tickets are available from the Box Office on (01271) 324242.
