BIDEFORD and Barnstaple ABC showed a crowded Exmouth Pavilions how much local pride means when Dan Davies of Bideford and Jordan Jones of Barnstaple met in the squared ring to trade leather for three action packed rounds.

Both were having their first contests, but neither boxer was happy to ease into the bout and they went toe to toe, trying to take each other out from the opening bell and some big punches coming in from both sides.

Round two began at the same intensity, with Jones coming out with some swinging shots and Davies showing good head movement to see himself through the onslaught.

Davies saw his opponent tiring an seized the moment with some fast flurrys to rock Jones and force a standing count.

In the third, the boxers met in the middle, forcing one another to the rope, trying to catch the judges’ eyes.

It was Davies who won the day with a unanimous points verdict, but both received a standing ovation from the crowd and from special guest,

former world professional champion Alex Arthur.

The Bideford boxer hopes to be in action again at the Bideford club’s dinner show at the Durrant House Hotel on November 25.

It is also hoped to see alongside him England boxers Tommy and Jack Langford, ex professional Rob Palmer and local favourites Soane Coysh, Ben Owen, Ray Penfold and others.
