Braunton FC and SAS Womenâ€™s Teams braved the wrath of storm Franklin on Sunday to play a lively encounter in the Womenâ€™s North Devon Football League. The match was dedicated to the Football V Homophobia campaign 2022.Â
The Braunton squad gave debuts to 3 players, Caz Sunley, Jo Morgan and Kelly Kay. The team included players fromÂ their teens to their 60s, demonstrating that football in North Devon is for everyone.Â
Striker Alice Rivans set the tone for the game, scoring in the opening minute. She was awarded player of the day after netting a further threeÂ goals. Hannah Cooper scored twice, April Oliver netted once and 17 year-old Asha Holdsworth scored her first senior league goal. The 9-0 scoreline included an own goal conceded from a brilliant corner by Jodie Ellis.Â
The win placed Braunton Womenâ€™s Team at the top of the Womenâ€™s North Devon football League with champions Fremington Women coming next.Â
