North Devon’s iron man completes another gruelling endurance challenge

“THE hardest paddle of my life” is how Woolacombe ironman Nick Thorn described his epic paddle from Hartland to Croyde – via Lundy – at the weekend.

The 37 mile paddle on behalf of Children’s Hospice South West had to be postponed until Sunday due to the weather, but large swells still made the crossing to Lundy difficult and described as “hell” by Nick.

Eight-and-a-half hours later he arrived at Croyde beach to be mobbed by friends, family and Oceanfest revellers before receiving a guard of honour as hundreds of people formed a human archway to the main stage.

It followed on the heels of his exploits last year when he swam the 19.8 miles from Lundy to Woolacombe.
