ORGANISERS of Barnstaple's annual Christmas light switch on event have announced another musical coup for the town.

This year's big switch on - which in recent years has featured headline performances by Joss Stone, The Saturdays and Noisettes - will be performed by Brit Award-nominated and multiple platinum selling singer-songwriter Newton Faulkner.

The artist, who has had huge success with his first two albums, will be topping a packed bill on Barnstaple Square on Sunday, November 21.

Having supported the likes of James Morrison, Paolo Nutini and John Mayer, as well as headlining his own sell out tours, Newton will be the centrepiece of what organisers hope will be yet another fantastic day to launch the Barnstaple's Christmas festivities.

Town centre manager Craig Bulley said he had been keen to secure the singer for the past couple of years, given his popularity as a live performer.

"With a multitude of festivals under his belt, including Glastonbury, V Festival, 'T in the Park' this year, and with a festival stealing, special guest performance at GoldCoast Oceanfest 2009, Newton's live reputation is sure to draw huge crowds," he said.

The day - funded primarily though sponsorship money and supported by the BidBarnstaple scheme - will include a great range of local acts and performers including local schools and young people.
