YOUNG people from North Devon and Torridge are among a host of junior achievers shortlisted for a top award this weekend.More than 100 nominations were received for the second annual Devon Children's Trust 2008 Young People's Achievement awards, taking place at County Hall, Exeter, on Saturday afternoon. Matt Cannon, from North Devon is a finalist in the Participation category, while Samuel Rudd from Combe Martin has been put forward for a Positive Futures award. Samantha Humphreys from Barnstaple, Kasha Stuckey from Braunton, and Benjamin Purnell from Northam, have all been shortlisted in the Education category, while SWITCH from Bideford and Northam Youth Group have been nominated for a group award.The awards are designed to celebrate the personal and collective achievements of young people.Finalists were selected by a panel of judges consisting of representatives from Devon's Children's Trust partnership and two young people.Panellist and chairman of Devon's Children's Trust, Mary Nisbett, said: "Once again, the sheer range and quality of nominations has been amazing.
