Yeo Valley yomp for heroes

MORE than 200 Yeo Valley School youngsters went on a yomp around their school grounds and raised a whopping 800 for Help For Heroes.

The primary school pupils were set off by North Devon MP and Armed Forces Minister Nick Harvey and accompanied on their walk by members of 24 Commando Engineer Regiment from RMB Chivenor.

There was also a fancy dress competition judged by the Servicemen, Welfare Officer Paul Southwick, Welfare Sergeant Mick Carr and Lance Corporal Glenn Lewis, with many of the children dressed in camouflage outfits and others as rubbish, to reflect the secondary theme of the school collecting to provide new bins.

Fancy dress winners were: four to six years – Kianna Jaylen and Reece Gordon-Oke; seven to nine years – Marcus Birchmore and Damon McManus; nine to 11 years – Niha Arain and Owen Parsons.

There was special mention for young Archie Barrow, who raised the most sponsorship money of 220.
