Police are urging van owners to keep their vehicles extra secure after a spate of thefts.

DC Anna Lewis said there had been an increase in the amount of break-ins to vehicles, with work vans specifically targeted.

She said: “At the moment we have had a large number of crimes recorded where power tools have been reported stolen, with some having tools stolen to the value of £5,000.”

Break-ins have been reported in Barnstaple, Bideford, Torrington, Ilfracombe, South Molton and Okehampton.

Police are now asking people who own vans to make sure their vehicles are locked and secure, and that power tools and valuables are removed from them overnight.

DC Lewis added: “We continue to work hard to locate those responsible.

“We would urge everyone to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity, particularly around work vans.”

Any information can be reported to police by calling 101, quoting EN/018176/18.
