Torridge District Council (TDC) hopes the 159-capacity car park at Wilkey's Field off Pebbleridge Road will ease congestion in the village over the summer months. The work, which is being carried by Devon County Council's engineering services and Chichester Homes, is expected to be complete by the end of June. The car park will have 159 spaces at the height of the holiday season, with 36 open all year round. There will be eight disabled bays and two electric charging points. Gates to the car park will be operated on the same timings as Northam Burrows Country Park. TDC's property and procurement manager Adrian Redwood said: "We recognise that the works will inevitably involve some congestion locally, but the activities will be sequenced to keep this to a minimum. "The intention is to have all of the works completed before the main summer holiday period, so that the parking will be available during the busy summer months. "The indication from our consultations is that the additional parking capacity will be welcomed by many residents and the businesses that operate nearby. We would like to thank everyone for their patience during the construction period."
