VOLUNTEERS who have helped the state-of-the-art Woolsery Sports and Community Hall become established in the community have been honoured by the Queen. The Lord Lieutenant of Devon, Eric Dancer, visited the hall on Saturday to present them with the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service - the equivalent of an MBE. He praised everyone who had put in the time and effort to get the hall project up and running. Beryl Hancock and Ashley Glover, volunteers from each end of the age spectrum were chosen to receive a framed certificate signed by the Queen and a commemorative crystal. Also present at the ceremony were Cllr Trevor Pennington, the vice-chairman of Devon County Council, Cllr Margaret Brown, chairman of Torridge District Council and Torridge and West Devon MP Geoffrey Cox. Children from Woolsery Primary School formed a guard of honour as the dignitaries entered the hall. After the presentation, a reception was held for around 100 invited guests.
