A 34-year-old woman has been formally cautioned for wasting police time after alleging she was robbed at knifepoint near a Barnstaple graveyard.A police investigation began on June 6. But after discovering numerous discrepancies in the woman`'s story, it was concluded that the incident did not happen.Det Con Phil Lawes said: "I am surprised that somebody could make up such a serious allegation when knife crime is headline news in this country."It is important for the people of Barnstaple to know that this type on incident is rare and false allegations like this one do not help in reducing the fear of crime.
