The body of a woman has been found at a cove near Ilfracombe this weekend.

A body of a woman has been discovered at a North Devon beach.

Police were informed of a missing local woman at around 10.30am yesterday (Sunday), with concerns for her welfare.

A multi-agency response was launched including support from the ambulance,search and rescue helicopter, RNLI and coastguard, and localised searches in and around Ilfracombe took place.

The body of a woman in her 40s was located near Blithe Cove at around 1.30pm by the Coastguard.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Formal identification has yet to have taken place but her next of kin have been informed.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
