A 20-year-old woman who jumped into the River Torridge in Bideford just after midnight this morning was rescued and taken to North Devon District Hospital.When police arrived on the scene at 12.10am, the woman was clinging to a wall, but released her grip and started to float out on the ebb tide.Police officers commandeered a small inflatable boat and rowed out to the woman. They managed to hold onto her while awaiting the arrival of the Appledore inshore lifeboat. As they were some distance from the shore, the police helicopter illuminated the scene.The woman was safely returned to shore and taken to hospital by ambulance.
