A woman had to be rescued by fire fighters and treated for smoke inhalation after a blaze at Pilton Lawn in Barnstaple yesterday (Monday) afternoon.
Two fire crews from the town were called to the scene just after 5pm and discovered the fire in a first floor bedroom.
The woman was found and led to safety by fire fighters with breathing apparatus while others used a hose reel jet to put the fire out. A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the smoke.
The casualty was given oxygen therapy at the scene and left in the care of South Western Ambulance Service paramedics.

The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental.
