POLICE were called to Barnstaple Long bridge at 10pm last night (Tuesday), Barnstaple following a report of a woman siting with her legs over the side of the bridge.Officers arrived at the scene and the woman jumped into shallow water below. Three officers ran down onto the riverbank and entered the water.They swam out and then towed her to safety where first aid was administered. The inshore life boat also assisted to get her from the mud banks.She was then taken to North Devon District Hospital for treatment. The casualty, who is 43 and from Barnstaple, was treated for back and shoulder injuries which are not considered life threatening.
