POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a serious collision on the A377 on Friday which has left a woman in a critical condition. The 67-year-old driver of a Citroen Xsara had stopped in the carriageway between Crediton and Copplestone to rescue a goose in the road at around 11.25pm. But as she did she was hit by a Ford Focus travelling in the opposite direction and suffered multiple, serious injuries. A police spokesman said the woman, from Crediton, was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital but later transferred to Frenchay where she remains in a critical condition. The 59-year-old lady driving the Ford Focus was said to be extremely shaken up but uninjured. The incident is being investigated by the serious collisions unit and police are urging any witnesses to contact them on non-emergency number 101 quoting log 1097 of July 5.
