COMBE Martin Carnival kicked off on Saturday and the familiar "British summer" did nothing to deter the large crowd who turned out at the Village Hall for the official opening."Wolf man" Shaun Ellis did the honours before the crowning of Carnival Queen Sophie Field and princesses Jackie Coomber and Kate Crang.Tonight (Wednesday) the main carnival parade leaves the top of the village street at 7.30pm and the road will be closed from 6-10pm.Carnival Bingo is tomorrow at the village Hall with doors opening at 7pm. Children's Pavement Artist Competition is on Saturday at 10.30am at the seaside.The Wheelbarrow Parade is at 8pm, together with an inaugural fun run and followed by a firework display, music and barbecue at the beach.The Raft race is on Saturday at 8pm. Dinghy and junior races run from 6.30pm. Music follows from Zamba.
