CHRISTMAS celebrations start in Witheridge with a village square Christmas tree lights switch-on on Saturday, December 6.Crediton Town Band will kick things off from 5pm by accompanying community carol singing, which is open to all.At 6pm, village town crier Frank Housam will invite two pupils from Witheridge School to pull the switch to light the tree.The event, supported by Witheridge Parish Council, is being organised by the St John's Fair group.Back by popular demand this year will be a senior citizens' party in the parish hall from 3-4.30pm, with music provided by the local musicians Cyril Blackford and Les Hutchings of Gospelship.After the light switch-on, Father Christmas will be visiting the hall for a children's Christmas party that will also feature Professor Fumble.Tickets for both parties are £3.50, including food, and are on sale in the village store and newsagent.
