Wind farm plan refused

Members vote against planning officers’ recommendation

North Devon Council’s planning committee has voted to refuse an application to build a giant wind farm near South Molton.

The decision was taken at the end of a lengthy meeting held in the new Bishops Nympton Village Hall yesterday (Wednesday).

The plan, by RWE npower renewables, to build nine giant wind turbines at Batsworthy Cross had been recommended for approval by council planning officers.

Opponents had waged a bitter campaign against the wind farm, citing the impact the development would have on the edge of Exmoor site among a long list of objections.
