Combe Martin Carnival week returns to the village this Sunday. There had been fears the popular event would not happen this year but it can thanks to generous 11th-hour grants from Combe Martin Tourist Association and Ilfracombe and District Lions Club. The highlight of the new streamlined but fun-packed week will see the main carnival parade take place on Friday, August 11 at 7.30pm, followed by live music with Falling Apart at the Castle Inn at 10pm. It all begins on Sunday with raft, kayak and stand-up paddle board races at the beach from 6.30pm, registration from 5.15. There are events all week, including a Sandcastle competition on Monday at 2pm, Pile-a-Pebble at 2pm on Tuesday and bingo on Thursday at the Village Hall from 8pm. The Pavement Art Competition is on Friday at 10.30am at Borough Road, with a car show at the Pack O Cards on Saturday at 10am, followed by the Duck Race at 3pm.
