Mystery operator already has premises in Barnstaple, says applicant

Plans have been lodged for a 'coffee pod' at Roundswell retail Park in Barnstaple.

The application on behalf of Canada Life Investments seeks permission for a 1,800 square foot premises accessed via the entrance by Roundswell McDonald's.

It does not say who the proposed operator is, but says the single storey pod will be run by a 'well known national operator' that already operates in Barnstaple.

National chains in Barnstaple currently include Costa and Café Nero.

The application says the proposed pod will serve both the existing town centre uses at the site and the surrounding businesses and residents.

It says the small premises would 'enhance and complement the retail provision within both of these locations and can be provided at the retail park without adverse harm to existing activities'.

The planning statement says a pedestrian link (with zebra crossings) will connect it to the remainder of the units.

The pod will comprise a single storey structure with a swept roof. A canopy is provided over the entrance feature.
