WESTWARD Ho! Tennis Club has announced the formal planning submission for its 2.5million project to create an indoor racquet centre at Silford Road.
The club is a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) and is a not-for-profit organisation. CASC status ensures that the facilities are accessible, affordable, for the benefit of the whole community and in the ownership of the local community.
The project has been underway since 2005 and the current proposals follow consultations with the public and relevant stakeholders.
A statement from the club said two public consultations had provided overwhelming support for the Silford Road site and that the design had used the topography of the site to minimise the environmental impact of the proposed development, building into the hillside which, along with appropriate landscaping, would provide a visually attractive and sympathetic development.
