Plans for a multi-million-pound hotel in the heart of Westward Ho! will be resubmitted complete with a gym, spa and infinity rooftop pool.Proposals by Westward Living for the five-storey Whotel were granted at appeal in November last year but now the developers want to make it even bigger. The new plans would see the hotel extended by another half-a-storey in height, which would house a gym, spa, and rooftop pool. Alan Smith, of Westward Living, said the new additions were perfect for Westward Ho!. The original hotel plans were approved by the planning inspector after being refused by Torridge District Council twice. The were initially lodged in October 2014 and refused, before being resubmitted and refused again in April 2015. But Mr Smith said there was an anomaly in the approval. He said the conditions on the approval did not allow sufficient height for the five storeys specified in the proposals. We want to increase the height by four feet but I have had a pre-application meeting with Torridge and they have refused that, said Mr Smith. Mr Smith said despite the recommendations from officers to approve his initial plans back in April, the council has already refused the new plans in the pre-application stages. David Green, planning manager at TDC, said: The planning inspector in allowing the principle of a hotel on the Westward Ho! site did state that any building should be no higher than one metre above the adjacent development to the west. However, any new application will be considered on its merits and the previous judgement of the inspector was against an outline application where no detail of the design or height had been submitted.
