PLANS are being made for a celebrity TV chef to head a prestige cookery school and restaurant in Westward Ho! The project is part of multi-million pound regeneration plans for the seaside resort by local businessmen Alan Smith and Martin Seymour.A £4 million seafront development is planned on the former Buccaneer pub and ice rink site to include two restaurants - one headed by the celebrity chef - a water feature attraction, shops, tourist information centre, heritage centre, offices, apartments and a new village square. In conjunction with this, plans have been submitted for the development of a £3.5 million high-class hotel in 50 acres of parkland above the resort in Cornborough Road. This site would also house the cookery school, where students would be taught by celebrity and international chefs, plus spa facilities and a conference room.Mr Smith said the idea was that people could stay at the hotel and also use the prestige restaurant in the resort. They would like to establish Westward Ho! as a resort known for its culinary excellence, he said. But in order to make this work there was a need for five-star quality accommodation. The celebrity chef could not be named as negotiations were still in the final stages, he said.
