Fire fighters had to cut a woman from a car after a collision in Westward Ho! yesterday (Wednesday).

Crews from Bideford and Barnstaple were called to the scene in Atlantic Way at around 6.40pm by paramedics attending.

It was reported that a Land Rover was on its side with a woman trapped in the vehicle.

A fire spokesman said: “The crew got to working using small tools and battery powered cutting equipment to release the female casualty.

“The female was released from the vehicle and now in the care of the paramedics. The crew made the vehicles safe and handed the scene over to the police.”

The woman, believed to be in her 70s, sustained minor injuries and was checked over as a precaution. The man driving of the vehicle was uninjured.

The road was closed in both directions until the vehicle was recovered just before 9pm.
