Residents of Barnstaple’s Westacott housing estate are crowdfunding for new park equipment as they continue to campaign to protect it from developers.
The Westacott residents are raising money to restore the zip wire at the Westacott Meadow play area.
Residents are hoping to raise £3,000 towards the work, which has gathered support from Councillor John Mathews and North Devon MP Peter Heaton-Jones.
The council-owned park is part of a planning application from Progress Land to build up to 149 homes in Westacott, with the proposed access road going through the area.
Westacott resident Marcella Priest Roberts said: “The zip wire has been out of action for a long time and we want to put something here for older kids.
“We want to show the community is standing strong – they love their park.”
North Devon Council said it has not been formally approached regarding the purchase of the land it owns.
