PUPILS at West Down School have taken a step back in time to learn all about the "three Rs".In true Victorian fashion, Mrs Recycle, also known as Cathy Karniewicz, taught children how to reduce, re-use and recycle. The self-styled green queen used an old rotating blackboard with chalk and rubber, a wooden globe, and a sewing sampler made by an 11-year-old girl in 1889, to show how items made as much as 120 years ago can still be of interest and use today. After the interactive assembly, pupils discovered how by turning fruit waste into wanted compost, earthworms are one of nature's best recyclers.
