THE Chapelton Vintage Rally, usually held over the August Bank Holiday weekend, has been postponed for five weeks. because the site is waterlogged. It will now take place on Saturday and Sunday September 27-28.The rally committee took the decision reluctantly because last year's event had to be cancelled altogether due to torrential rain."It cost us several thousand pounds to cancel last year and we're just hoping for some drier weather in the next few weeks."The postponement might even work in our favour because we may get some more exhibits."Many steam engines go to a big event in Dorset for the August Bank Holiday."I would be delighted to hear from new exhibitors. They can phone me on (01237) 474877."The rally will be filled with nostalgia for those who remember the transport of yesteryear. And there will be plenty of fun for younger members of the family to enjoy, too.Exhibits will include steam engines, both full size and scale models, fairground organs, classic and vintage cars, motor and pedal cycles, tractors, stationary engines, commercial and military vehicles, plus trade stands, a model and craft tent and a fairground. The Texans will be playing on the Sunday afternoon from 12noon until 4pm. Unfortunately, the rally will miss the annual visit by hundreds of Minis on their grand tour of North Devon, which takes place this weekend.
