Water feature for Hirst statue?

SIR - Whatever the public opinion as to the suitability of Damien Hirst’s statue, this is not a gift, simply a loan.

Offered as a tourist attraction and thus beneficial to Ilfracombe, the controversial launch and 20 years of free publicity should guarantee a substantial retirement lump sum at the end of this period.

To add to the interest perhaps a water feature could be incorporated, programmed to break water at a given time every day.

Alternatively, my suggestion might just dissuade the council from thrusting an inappropriate work of art into family holidaymakers’ view regardless of their feelings.

Gaston Dezart, Bideford.
