Traditional farming methods on display at special Chittlehampton two-day show

Traditional farming methods will be on display at a heavy horses weekend in Chittlehampton on Saturday and Sunday.

The Heavy Horses at Work event will feature around 30 heavy horses and donkeys, with demonstrations including ploughing, cutting corn and harrowing.

There will be young handlers’, log snigging, in hand showing and young farmers’ tug o’ war competitions, as well as craft stalls; cream teas, coffee and cakes and a dog show.

John May’s butchers from South Molton will be firing up a hog roast on Saturday night, with a bar by Branscombe Brewery and live music from 7pm.

Organised by the Western Counties Heavy Horse Society, money will be raised for the Addington Fund, a farming charity that helps provide support for rural families, as well as Hieritha’s church tower repair fund.

Gates at Higher Biddacott Farm open at 10.30am and entry is £7.50 for adults and free for children.
