The three-part drama series sees Grant play the role of former North Devon MP Jeremy Thorpe, who went on trial at the Old Bailey for conspiracy to murder his lover Norman Scott (Whishaw).

The BBC One trailer shows Thorpe meeting Scott in North Devon before a whistle-stop look at the pair’s rise and fall, as well as introducing the show’s supporting cast, which includes The Inbetweeners’ Blake Harrison and Torchwood star Eve Myles.

An exact date for the show’s premier is yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to air on BBC One this month.

The village of Chittlehampton was brought to a standstill back in October when Grant and Whishaw filmed scenes for the drama in the Square.

Crews also took to Saunton Sands for a Californian-style beach hut scene.
