THE people of Braunton and North Devon have been asked to help track down any memorabilia from the days when the trains used to go through the village.Braunton Parish Council is planning to created an information board about the history of the former Braunton railway and site it in the village.The railway went through Braunton for almost an entire century, from 1874 until 1970 and the council is keen to hear from anyone who has memorabilia, old photographs, tickets or artefacts from those bygone days.After the information board is produced, Braunton and District Museum intends to hold a special exhibition commemorating the railway and is hoping to borrow objects, documents and pictures with which to stock it."A lot of people in the area had relatives working on the railway and we want to make the information boards as accurate and as interesting as possible," said Pauline D'Rane, assistant parish clerk."We are looking for anything from the old railway, be it tickets, time tables, artefacts or whatever."The council has already worked to provide information boards as part of the Explore Braunton project. Now, Braunton County Councillor Jenny Jenkins has provided the money form her councillor's grants budget to create the railway boards.Anyone with memorabilia of Braunton railway is invited to contact Pauline D'Rane at the Parish Office on (01271) 812131 or call in at the office with anything they don't mind loaning to the project. The office is open from 9am-12 noon on weekdays.
