NATURE lovers are being invited to help plant trees at a Barnstaple community woodland. The invitation has been issued by North Devon Council, which needs volunteers to lend a hand at the Yeo Valley Community Woodland on Sunday, December 7 from 10am-3pm.Last year, volunteers and school children planted more than 3,000 trees, but there is a lot still to do.Cllr Des Brailey, Lead member for community and spatial planning, said: "Last year, there was a phenomenal community effort to plant trees and the woodland is really starting to take shape now."Volunteers should meet at the Silverwood Heights entrance to the woodland at 10am, wearing old clothing, waterproofs and sturdy footwear. They should also bring a packed lunch.Activities are planned at the woodland from January to August next year, including more treet planting, hedge laying, bracken bashing, path work and ragwort pulling. An open day will be held on August 2.More information is available from Andrew Moulton, North Devon Council's community officer, on (01271) 388326 or email parks@northdevon.gov.uk.
