THE famous virtual bonfire will return to Ilfracombe Rugby Club on Friday (November 7) with a triumphant computer generated crackle of flame - and plenty of real fireworks. Now in its third year, the novel approach to Guy Fawkes celebrations was prompted by a need to preserve the pitch at the club's Brimlands ground, so a screen, speakers and patio heaters have combined to produce a similar effect without the mess!It has proved very popular and this year when the gates open at 6.30pm it will include a disco, fun fair, children's fancy dress competition, bar and barbecue. The fireworks begin at 7.30pm for what is probably one of the safest displays people could go to - at the cost of £5 for a family ticket, £2 for adults and £1 for children. Simply turn up on the night."I am intrigued that with the virtual bonfire now in its third year, it's still unique enough to create a level of interest which means Channel 4 will be joining us this year," said founder organiser Paul Crabb. And the theme of the programme? Health and safety, of course..!
