An 18 year-old violinist is hoping to move on to big things after winning a county competition.Charlotte Price, from Buckland Brewer, recently won two awards at the Devon Performing Arts Festival, taking home trophies in the string recital class, as well as the solo grade eight competition. Charlotte was delighted to win an award at county level. She said: It was a good experience, because Id only done North Devon competitions and a few in Plymouth, so it was nice to compete against different people. The Bideford College student has been playing from the age of six through the North Devon Strings section of the North Devon Music Centre. Its good because I suppose at private schools they push you to do music, whereas at state schools there werent many people in my class who would be able to read music. My parents have never been pushy and it makes it more about me and me wanting to do it. Charlotte is now on the verge of joining the Royal Welsh College, a prestigious performing arts university, before following her dream. She said: Its a four-year course and then hopefully Ill be able to join a professional orchestra or chamber group and tour the world.
