MORE than 50 people of all generations attended the official opening of a new play area and equipment in the small community of Lee near Ilfracombe. Those attending ranged from Heather Easy, aged 11 weeks, to Lionel Hill who was born in the year the village hall was opened in 1923. Unfortunately, the village's youngest resident, Jennipher Ann Hewitt, born just three days earlier, was otherwise engaged! There was a special welcome to Melanie McLoughlin, director of the Devon Community Foundation, whose grant through the Local Network Fund enabled the play facility to go ahead. Also present was Ilfracombe's newly installed mayor, Cllr Geoff Fowler, who made a contribution from his fund as a county councillor towards the project.Four-year-old Grace Eveleigh, with a little assistance from the mayor, cut the tape that surrounded the play equipment and local children were then delighted to demonstrate the play equipment.Refreshments were served on the meadow.
