THE unique Combe Martin tradition of the Hunting of the Earl of Rone returned to the village over the bank holiday weekend.Costumed characters took to the streets in a riot of colour for a series of processions each day as the annual re-enactment of myth, folklore and history came to life once more. It all culminated in a grand parade on Monday evening as the captured "Earl" and his escort of "grenadiers," Hobby Horse, Fool, drummers, musicians and flower bedecked revellers made their way down the long village street. They reached the seaside at sunset where an effigy of the earl was cast into the sea amidst a frenzy of drumming.
