As part of Winkleigh Fair Week, a Community Fun Day is being held for the village and its surrounding areas on Wednesday, July 16 from 2pm to 6pm at the Winkleigh Sports Centre. It will then be followed by Winkleigh Youth Club's Fun Night, which runs from 6.00pm to 9.00pm that night. The fun day is one of a number of events planned for the coming year by a range of partners, including the Police, the TVS Grassroots Project, the Fire Service, Torridge District Council, Devon County Council, the Primary Care Trust, Tarka Housing and Devon and Cornwall Housing Association. This first Winkleigh Fun Day is being organised by the North Devon Police Neighbourhood Beat Team with the help of the Grassroots Project of Torridge Voluntary Services. The aim is to bring a range of community projects and services into the heart of Winkleigh and its surrounding parishes. There will be something there for all members of the community, including face painting, badge making, a chance to have a go at lawn bowls and displays from the Torrington 1646 Centre, Andrei Burton's stunt mountain bike show and the Police Dog team. Weather permitting, the Police helicopter is planning to land during the afternoon as well. On the day, Shears Coaches have kindly agreed to run a vintage bus service from the village to the Fun Day and back again. All tickets for this will be free.PC Dick Rowlands, PCSO Sandra Brown and PCSO Melissa Baker of Torrington Police say: "We are hoping that this event will be a valuable addition to the Winkleigh Fair Calendar, not only for the fun we hope everyone will have but for the information and assistance the various service providers and groups can provide."Penny Mason, TVS' Chief Officer said: "This is a great opportunity for service providers, like ourselves, to find out about the challenges faced by people in the rural communities of Torridge".The Winkleigh Fairs Committee, Winkleigh Youth Club, local schools and the Friends of Winkleigh deserve special mention for their help with this event. The first such partnership Fun Day in Halwill Junction last month was very successful and there are two more Fun Days being planned over the summer - one at the Pollyfield Centre, East-the-Water on Friday, August 1 and one at Holsworthy Community College on Thursday, September 18.
