THERE is still time to put paint, pastel, pen or pencil to paper and enter the Ilfracombe Victorian Art Competition - with the opportunity to see your work transformed into a huge advertising hoarding at the entrance to the town.Artists of all ages are invited to come up with a Victorian themed design to greet visitors to the town in the run up to Victorian Celebration week, which begins on June 7.The Victorian Celebrations Committee has teamed up with the North Devon Gazette to find the best from four age categories - under eights, nine-14, 15-18 and adults.Their work will have an audience of thousands, as it will be transposed on to large hoardings promoting the 21st annual homage to the golden age of Empire, Queen Victoria, petticoats, pinafores and straw boaters, which is part of the North Devon Festival.Entries must have a Victorian theme and be drawn or painted on to A3 paper and each must include the words "Ilfracombe Victorian Celebrations 2008 June 7-15" - but otherwise the Empire is your oyster!Always a great spectacle of show and colour, the Suffragettes, Town Crier Competition, bathing belles, Last night of the Victorian Proms, the paddle steamer Waverley and hundreds of people in period costume all combine to make a great occasion.Aspiring artists now have until Friday, February 29 to submit their work. A3 submissions can be hand delivered or posted to: Ilfracombe Library, The Candar, Ilfracombe, EX34 9DS.
